Student Ministry Update

July 08, 2020

Greetings Parents!

As we continue to walk through covid-19, I wanted to sit down and give you all an update. I would also ask you to please email me at and join the email list! That way you will not need to come to the website but you will receive this information directly in your inbox. First of all, I just wanted to say thank you for letting me join you in discipling your students. It’s an honor to serve as the Youth and Young Adults Pastor at the Evangelical Free Church of Bemidji. You and your students have personally blessed me these past several years. I am excited for what God has planned for the future of the ministry here. This parent email/letter, more like an update blog, will include a few things.

First, these will have encouraging material for you as the parent. I am a firm believer that the parents are the primary disciple makers of their children. I am here to walk along side and partner with you. I cannot be the sole influence in their life. In these posts, I will be giving you tools to not only walk along side your student but also help you in your journey with Christ. Deuteronomy 6:6-7 says “And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.” I only see your students for a few hours a week. I want to equip you with tools and resources that you can use to disciple your student. From the breakfast table before school, to driving to church, to working around the house, these are times you can both model and teach your child. If you ever have questions please do not hesitate to ask. I may not have the answer but we can figure it out together, or ask Pastor Jerry.

The second objective of these parent emails will be to give you information of up coming events and what we are learning. This will help you plan your schedules. It will also help you know when to make sure your students really needs to be at youth group or Sunday school. I will try and highlight some key events and where our lessons are going.

The last objective is to give you some follow up questions you can ask your student. Far too often you have probably been like so many other parents asking “what did you learn tonight at youth group?” Only to be answered with a “I dunno…” or a “not much.” I can assure you that we talk about the gospel and what the bible has to say for our lives today. My goal is to give you a few questions each week or so for you to ask your student. On top of that I will have some standard follow up questions for you. Example: “how does that apply to your life?” These questions will help you take what they learn in the lessons and small groups and directly influence their own personal life. Which you as the parent know best!

I hope that these future emails, we will call the Parent Letters, will help you in ministering to your family while they attend our student ministry. If there is anything else you would like to see out of these don’t hesitate to ask! I am looking forward to the 2020-2021 School year as we dive into the Gospel of John. These Letters will be more regular once the school year starts.
