Life Group Questions for the Week of April 27, 2025

Apr 27, 2025 |

1. Do you know any classic proverbs or other wise sayings that begin with the words, “Blessed are those who…” or “Woe to him who…” or something like that?

2. Luke 6:17-19 describes the setting for Jesus’ Sermon on the Plateau. In your own words, describe what’s going on here.

3. Read Luke 6:20-21. Why do you think Jesus said that the poor are blessed? Did He really mean that now is a good time to be hungry and weep? In verse 20, what do you think Jesus means by “yours is the kingdom of God.” (Consider Luke 4:18-19)

4. Read Luke 6:22-23. Would you say that Jesus maybe goes a little too far when he urges His followers to “rejoice” and even “leap for joy” when they’re mistreated for their faith in Him? (See John 15:18-19; 1 Peter 4:16; and Acts 5:40-41.)

5. Read Luke 6:24-26. Why do you think Jesus expresses this woe to those who are rich and comfortable? Is Jesus really saying that it’s a bad thing to be well fed, and to laugh and have everyone speak well of you? Explain.

6. Why do you think verses 23 and 26 mention how God’s prophets were treated back in the Old Testament? How might you describe the contrast between God’s faithful prophets and the false prophets?

7. How might you summarize the overall message of Jesus’ Sermon on the Plateau?
