1. Who taught you how to drive? What do you remember about the first time you got behind the wheel?

2. Read Luke 4:18-19; 4:43; and 9:1-2. How do you think Jesus’ preaching ministry helped to prepare the apostles for proclaiming the good news of the kingdom?

3. In what ways is the gospel of the kingdom an extraordinary message?

4. Read Luke 9:3-4. Why do you think Jesus chose to send the Twelve out with so little provisions? How would you have felt in this situation?

5. What kinds of things do individuals/churches sometimes think they need in order to be effective in ministry or effective in preaching the gospel? How should we view these things?

6. Read Luke 6:12-16 and 8:1-2. What made these people “ordinary”? Why do you think Jesus uses ordinary people to proclaim his extraordinary message?

7 Read Luke 9:5-6. If the gospel is so extraordinary, why don’t more people respond positively? How would you describe Herod’s response in 9:7-9?
