1. What do you think about this definition? “The conscience is your consciousness of what you believe is right and wrong.”* Is your conscience trustworthy?

2. Read Romans 14:13-15. What comes to mind when you think of a “stumbling block”? How can something be both clean and unclean at the same time? How can something be permissible for one Christian but off-limits for another?

3. What do you think Paul meant when he said “Do not by your eating destroy someone for whom Christ died” (v. 15). In what sense might exercising our freedom in Christ be destructive toward another believer?

4. Read Romans 14:16-18. What leads Christians to lose their focus on kingdom matters? What are kingdom matters? What aren’t?

5. Read Romans 14:19-21. When was the last time you said, “Why should I have to?” about a disputable matter? How might laying down our liberty contribute to building up the body?

6. Read Romans 14:22-23. When are you most compelled to make your personal convictions public? How do you know when sharing your convictions benefits a dialog and when it might not? How might James 1:19 apply to these situations?
