May 5, 2024 |

1. Read Romans 16:17-20. What do these verses have in common with Genesis 3:1-15 and the story of Little Red Riding Hood?

2. What are some ways that our church can take seriously our responsibility for teaching correct doctrine? What are some ways that we can take personal responsibility?

3. In Romans 16:17 Paul urges them to “watch out” and “keep away from them.” Why do you think he didn’t urge them to confront these people or try to correct them? (Consider 2 Peter 2:1-3)

4. What do you think makes false teachers so effective? What might be some good ways to spot them in our own day? (Verse 17 identifies them by their contrary teaching, verse 18 by their selfish motives.)

5. Read Romans 16:19. How would you explain what it means to be “wise about what is good” and “innocent about what is evil”? What are some ways that our curiosity about evil sometimes draws us in?

6. Romans 16:20 reminds us that God will soon crush Satan and that the grace of Jesus is currently with us. How might you find these truths encouraging? (See 1 John 4:4 and the end of Matthew 28:20)
